Communications

There are 3 forms of communications. With that said, I will not install any lines that I believe is obsolete. This will include RG6 coaxial, and RJ11 telephone. There will be coaxial in the communications closet, but that would be the extent of it. This page will go in line with how I will deal with the various communications options.

Networking

RJ45 and wifi? connections will support all of the networking needed. All lines will run from the communications closet to the location where the ethernet jack might be needed. The home office will have 4 ethernet jacks on each wall. The TV wall will have 6 ethernet jacks, and the other walls in the living room, and bedrooms will have 3. This will assure that there are enough ethernet jacks for where they are needed.

The network server with the help of Access Points will support for 2 wifi connections. The first one is fsp which will be the main network, and where everything will connect to. The password will be easy for me to enter with a standard wifi phone, but complicated enough to make it hard for breaking in. There will also be a guest network will be fsp-g. The password will be my home telephone number which will make it easy for people that wishes to use my home network will have such an opportunity. The guest network will not show any of the networked devices on fsp.

Telephone

Simply put, there will be no RJ11 jacks. They are obsolete, and useless. If I needed a desk phone, and that phone required POE, I will make note of the port number, go to the communications closet, and change that port to use POE?. This will likely not be the case since I won’t need a desk phone. Based on my Ideal Phone Setup, I will have a home phone number, a fax/voicemail phone number, and a cellular phone number. To manage my home lines, I will have a telephony server. The reason for this will be apparent soon.

I will give Grandstream another chance, and will acquire one of their WP series phones. Once I log it into the home network, I will be able to get the IP address. I will go to the IP address, and configure it. In the unlikely event that I have 2 SIP? providers, the one for my 412 number will be line one since this is the one that makes calls. My SIP address will be accessible as well. This phone will be based in the primary bedroom, and I will carry this phone during the day. This will assure that anyone calling me on my home phone will reach me. When someone leaves a message, it will be sent to the telephony server’s voicemail system. The service provider offers voicemail, but that would mean 3 voicemail boxes to check. Not something I want to do if I can help it.

The 724 number will be a fax/voicemail number. This is where the telephony server will come in. I will acquire a domain (such as fspsample.com). This domain will go to a host that supports catch-all addressing. This will be important for outgoing faxes. When a call comes into the 724 number, the telephony server will instantly pick up, and listen for a fax tone. If it doesn’t hear one, it will assume it is a voice call, and send the calling number to my home phone’s voicemail box. The caller can choose to leave a message if they should wish to. This capability will only be with a telephony server, and appropriate software packages. For outgoing faxes, it will be an email sent to fspsample.com’s address. This will be an ITU-telephone-number@fspsample.com. If the server catches an email not in that format, it will delete the email without doing anything. However, if there is that proper format, the telephone server will collect the fax. The TO: will have a telephone number in the address. This is the telephone number the server will send the fax to. The SUBJECT: will be the subject of the fax, and the body of the email will be on the fax’s cover page. The attached .pdf file will be the pages that the fax server will send in addition to the cover page. Of course, if I need to fax internationally, I will be responsible for any international calls the fax will cause.

The 878 number will be my cellular number. This will mean 2 voicemail systems to check, but it could be worse. The 878 number will have cellular data, and support tethering. This will be essential for any carrier I will take. In addition, the carrier must support eSIM?. While I will also carry the home phone with me when home, I will have my cellular phone with me everywhere I will go. The 878 number will be my primary number, but since so many is used to calling my 412 number, it will be important to keep active even if I won’t make many calls out of it.

Television

I will have no RG6 coaxial cables running through the house. Simply put, they will not be needed. Instead, I will get a basic 85″ TV for the living room. Since there is no SmartTV OS? in a basic TV, I will also acquire an Apple TV box with ethernet. In the communications closet, there will be a Tablo DVR? that will record TV channels (maximum of 4), and allow me to watch them through the Tablo App on the smartTV platform. This will eliminate the need to run a coaxial line. Someone might be asking about cable TV. With that, I will just use Sling which is an IPTV? service and that would use the internet connect. I believe Verizon has a means where their set-top boxes don’t connect to coaxial, but use wifi. If that is the case, then I will be able to use Verizon.
